The Quebec CAQ government of Francois Legault has turned to a former Liberal cabinet minister to negotiate with the Kanien keha:ka (Mohawk) community of Kahnawake.
The CAQ crossed party lines to find its newest point person for negotiations with the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake. Geoffrey Kelley, former Indigenous Affairs minister, will take over the role later this month.
The Quebec government says it's open to the idea of expanding what high school students are taught about residential schools. Indigenous school boards have already done that and say they are willing to share what they've learned.
