ITV s Political Editor has written a detailed thread on Twitter explaining why the EU is currently facing difficulties procuring the Oxford AstraZenca vaccine. Put simply, he states the supply problems are because the EU signed a deal with the vaccine company three months after the UK did, leaving less time to iron out any logistical challenges. Mr Peston also quotes a pre-EU source left furious with Brussels, who states: I understand Brexit better now.
Europe is in a race against time. While the early roll-out of the vaccine has been beset by difficulties, it is expected to pick up dramatically from March. But the arrival of more infectious Covid variants is threatening to extinguish the hopes associated with mass vaccination.
