Nuezca red-flagged over past cases, PNP chief says

December 21, 2020 THE policeman who killed a woman and her son during an altercation in Tarlac had been red-flagged because of administrative charges filed against him in the past, including two cases of homicide. Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Debold Sinas said Senior Master Sergeant Jonel Nuezca was charged administratively five times from 2013 to 2019. Two cases filed in May and December 2019 were for homicide, but both cases were dismissed due to lack of substantial evidence. In 2016, he was charged with serious neglect of duty for failing to attend a court hearing as prosecution witness of a drug-related case. A year earlier, in 2015, he was suspended for 31 days for less grave misconduct after he refused to undergo a drug test and left the testing venue without permission and clearance from the National Police Commission (Napolcom) inspectors.

Officials deny MECQ rumors in Metro Manila

SunStar (File) December 20, 2020 AUTHORITIES have shrugged off rumors that Metro Manila will be reverted to stricter quarantine rules as a measure against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) transmission. Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, chairman of the National Task Force (NTF) Against Covid-19, said Metro Manila will remain under general community quarantine (GCQ) until the end of the year as earlier announced by President Rodrigo Duterte. “I would like to inform the public that the current situation in Metro Manila is stable and manageable and does not warrant a shift back to MECQ,” he added. MECQ, or modified enhanced community quarantine, is more restrictive than GCQ.

This is not true,” Lorenzana, who is also NTF-Covid-19 chair, said in a statement.
