Indian variant of Covid recorded on Isle of Wight THE INDIAN variant of Covid has been recorded on the Isle of Wight, the council has confirmed. This is not a cause to panic, but it is a cause for caution, said Simon Bryant, director of public health at the Isle of Wight Council. The variant of coronavirus first identified in India has been recorded here, one of 127 local authority areas where the variant of concern (VOC) has now been detected. Today (Wednesday), Mr Bryant sought to reassure residents that the situation on the Island was managed appropriately and robustly. Where a VOC occurs, Public Health England’s Local Health Protection Team ensures there is swift follow up, with any close contacts asked to self-isolate and further, precautionary testing offered.

Dozens of pupils have been sent home after Covid cases were found in Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Barton schools.
At one school, 67 pupils and a staff member have had to self-isolate.
Parents have been informed if their children have been in contact with someone who tested positive.
This sadly means some pupils who returned to school this week for the first time since Christmas weren’t able to complete a week of lessons before going into self-isolation.

A Leicester coronavirus test site closed after a possible Covid outbreak was reported.
People who went to be tested at the Highfield Centre, on Melbourne Road, on Thursday January 21 found the site had been shut down.
A Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) spokesperson has now confirmed to LeicestershireLive they closed the site temporarily following reports of a possible outbreak of the virus.

A positive Covid-19 case has been confirmed by a village primary school near Grantham.
Waltham-on-the-Wolds Primary School, in Melton Mowbray, are now working with Public Health England.
In a statement to the Journal, the chair of governors Nigel Smith, said: Keeping our pupils, staff and local communitiesâ safe is our highest priority.
