Allerdale council launches £1K support payment for wet-led pubs

Allerdale Borough Council is urging wet-led pubs in the borough to apply for a £1,000 Christmas Support Payment. The Government grant for wet-led pubs is a one-off payment for premises that fall under Tier 2 or 3 restrictions between December 2 and 29. Wet-led pubs are those that derive under 50 per cent of their income from food sales. Cumbria is currently under Tier 2, meaning the borough’s wet-led pubs are eligible for this payment. Businesses that have also been in receipt of the other Local Restrictions Support Grants (LRSG) or the Additional Restrictions Grant, can also receive this grant. Businesses must have been trading before the national restrictions were imposed on November 5, 2020. Final applications must be received by 5pm on January 31, 2021.

Could temporary EU state aid limit changes be used to help hospitality?

Real estate service provider Colliers International has urged the Government to take advantage of the European Union’s increase in State Aid limits due to Covid-19 to support the UK’s ailing hospitality sector. Earlier this month, the European Commission confirmed that the UK can apply a revised Covid-19 State Aid Temporary Framework, which includes an increased limit from the original €800,000 (£731,160) threshold per company over three years to €3m (£2.7m).  According to the temporary framework, aid can be offered to companies facing shortages due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the form of direct grants, repayable advances and tax advantages.  The aid is granted to businesses that suffered a decline in turnover during the period between 1 March 2020 and 31 December 2020 of at least 30% compared to the same period in 2019.
