Greenland study provides eureka moment

A University of Manitoba professor is part of a team that has unearthed new information about the history of the Greenland ice sheet that stands to shift international thinking on how the frozen mass could melt in a warming climate.
The team’s research paper was published this week in the peer-reviewed journal, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. It shows inside of the last million years, Greenland’s ice sheet had melted entirely in a climate not much warmer than it is now.

Visitors and residents alike will have the opportunity to experience the view from the top of Whistlers Mountain when the Jasper Skytram opens on March 26.
General manager Todd Noble said this is the standard time to open in a normal year.
With new measures in place, Skytram staff are getting ready to get the adventures running in 2021.

As early as noon today, Parks Canada is closing the Icefields Parkway through to the evening of March 18 to allow for extensive avalanche control work.
The highway will be closed from Athabasca Falls to Saskatchewan River Crossing. The day-use area at Athabasca Falls will remain accessible.
“We find it more effective when we close the whole section,” said Steve Young, spokesperson for Jasper National Park.
