The public hearing on Tuesday, March 16, by the Senate public services committee is a gentle reminder that any form of phaseout of any public utility vehicle (PUV) is prohibited under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act, Senator Grace Poe on Tuesday said. (ALVIN KASIBAN / MANILA BULLETIN) This after Poe, committee chairwoman, conducted a hearing on the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) to hear both sides of concerns coming from the stakeholders of the transportation sector and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
“Lagi kong sinasabi ito tuwing mga drayber ang pinag-uusapan: Gusto nating maging ligtas ang ating mga daan at pampublikong sasakyan (I always say that when we discuss about drivers: I want safety on the roads and of PUVs). Ngunit, ika nga nila – there are two sides to every story and as policymakers, we are expected to consider both,” Poe said.
