County: Could another sales tax pay for jail? - Winona Post > Article

(2/3/2021)   The Winona County Board is exploring the possibility of a sales tax to help fund the planned new jail facility. The county has issued $10 million in bonds to get the initial capital to build the jail, with plans to bond for a total $25 million. This includes a line-item error in the Carroll Airport General Fund that should have been $500 instead of $1,500. The council will discuss the allocation of $260,000 from Local Option Sales Tax (L.O.S.T.), as was done in FY21, for the Carroll Rec Center building project design services and another allocation from L.O.S.T. of $7,500 for the Timberline Road sidewalk design services.
