According to a report from Inside Asian Gaming, the Hong Kong-listed firm made the forecast for the first five days of next month as part of a presentation on its first-quarter financial results while simultaneously declaring that demand from premium-mass and VIP casino players ‘remains strong.’

In Macau and a senior official with the enclave’s tourism ministry has reportedly predicted that local hotel occupancy rates during next month’s five-day Labour Day public holiday could reach as high as 80%.
According to a Tuesday report from GGRAsia, Cheng Wai Tong serves as the Deputy Director for the Macao Government Tourism Office and he made the optimistic forecast based on the latest booking information from the city’s vast array of hotels including those tied to local casino resorts. The official purportedly also proclaimed that such an outcome from May 1 would represent the best result for the city since the start over 15 months ago of a downturn tied to the coronavirus pandemic.

In the Philippines and the operator behind the giant Okada Manila integrated casino resort has reportedly detailed that the 993-room property saw its first-quarter gross gaming revenues decrease by some 42% year-on-year to just over $109.2 million.
According to a report from Inside Asian Gaming, the revelation from the Tiger Resort Leisure and Entertainment Incorporated subsidiary of Japanese conglomerate Universal Entertainment Corporation came after the Entertainment City facility was shuttered for the final 17 days of the quarter owing to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The source explained that this temporary closure had also led to the 110-acre development recording a drop of 35% year-on-year in adjusted earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization to around $14.2 million as visitor numbers plummeted by 52% to roughly 572,000.

According to a report from Inside Asian Gaming, the Hong Kong-listed firm made the move after law enforcement officials in neighboring Guangdong Province last week revealed that they were still seeking to crackdown on a number of illicit online casino sites including one calling itself ‘Sands Macao.’ The source detailed that this domain was allegedly still recruiting Chinese citizens to run iGaming operations marketed towards mainland players from an overseas base.
