ACWA Power expands operation to Uzbekistan with wind farm deal

ACWA Power, a leading Saudi developer, investor and operator of power generation and desalinated water plants in 13 countries, signed an implementation agreement with the Ministry of Investments & Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan for the development, construction and operation of a 1500 MW wind power project in Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan.
The deal was signed in the presence of Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman, Saudi Minister of Energy, and Sardor Umurzakov, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Investments & Foreign Trade. Once operational, the project will become the largest wind farm in the Central Asian region, and one of the largest in the world.
ACWA Power has signed an implementation agreement in relation to a 1500MW wind project in Uzbekistan, the country’s largest project of its kind.
ACWA Power signed the agreement with the Ministry of Investments & Foreign Trade and the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan for the development, construction and operation of the wind farm in Karakalpakstan.
Once operational, the project will become the largest wind farm in the Central Asian region, and one of the largest onshore wind farms in the world.
The agreement was signed on behalf of ACWA Power by Ayad AlAmri, executive general manager of business development, and on behalf of the Uzbekistani side by Sherzod Khodjaev, Deputy Minister at the Uzbekistan Ministry of Energy, and Shukhrat Vafaev, Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade.

Uzbekistan Wind Farm Project Expanding.
Masdar, a global renewable energy company, has signed an agreement with Uzbekistan’s government to extend the capacity of its utility-scale wind farm project in the country up to 1.5 GW. H.E. Sardor Umurzakov, deputy prime minister and minister of Investments and Foreign Trade for Uzbekistan, said at an April ceremony marking the agreement, “Mobilization of renewable energy potential in Uzbekistan would provide a significant contribution to sustainable economic growth and fighting climate change. Along with that, the expansion of clean power generation capacities by Masdar will support our objective to double the volume of electricity generation by 2030. Masdar will become a strong bridge connecting our countries, through which new Emirati companies will also invest in Uzbekistan.” Masdar in 2020 entered into bilateral agreements with Uzbekistan officials to develop, build, and operate a 500-MW wind farm project,
Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy signs MoU with Siemens Energy
TASHKENT, 1 days ago Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Siemens Energy AG of Germany and agreed on a roadmap for future, joint projects between the two entities. Cooperation between the two parties is anticipated in several areas, including projects to build new generating facilities; power audit facilities in Uzbekistan to introduce of energy-efficient technologies; hydrogen energy; and training of personnel. The MoU was signed by Energy Minister Alisher Sultanov, and Siemens Energy AG President, Christian Bruch, who was visiting Uzbekistan. The MoU expresses the interest of both parties to explore the potential to expand a strategic partnership in Uzbekistan and pursue the implementation of joint projects.
