Dr. Steven Zeisel will be stepping down as the UNC Nutrition Research Institute’s director after 13 years, but he leaves behind a legacy that has helped shape a more comprehensive picture of nutrition.
The UNC Nutrition Research Institute is closing the gap between Carolina researchers and the community by sharing its latest health and nutrition research through its monthly “Appetite for Life” outreach program.
The NRI launched Appetite for Life shortly after the institute opened in 2008 to host cooking and science demonstrations, events and interactive lectures that present nutrition research in a new way that’s easy to understand and builds connections with community members.
“What we like to tell people, especially when we’re getting them ready to serve as a speaker, is we want it to feel more like a TED Talk,” said Sarah Hreyo, development associate at the NRI. “Something where people are engaged, they’re excited, they’re learning, but it’s not over their heads.”

Worry not, the Department of Science and Technology’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) wants to help you.
The DOST-FNRI has enhanced its HELP (Healthy Eating and Lifestyle Program) Online Website, which provides easily accessible nutrition information and tools to the public to combat obesity and non-communicable diseases, and to promote healthy lifestyle.
In a webinar on the features of the website held Friday, Senior Research Specialist Noelle Lyn Santos of the FNRI’s Nutrition Research and Development Group said the website “was created to promote good nutrition to the public through provision of evidence-based information and up-to-date nutrition tools.”

Study: Virgin Coconut Oil Effective in Reducing COVID Symptoms
by
Editor, Health Impact News
Dr. Imelda Angeles-Agdeppa, the director of the Department of Science and Technology’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute in the Philippines, was recently interviewed by CNN-Philippines about a study she led comparing COVID patients who ate a regular hospital diet, with patients who ate the exact same diet but supplemented with Virgin Coconut Oil, according to their body weight.
She reported that at the end of 28 days, all of the patients who received the Virgin Coconut Oil supplementation exhibited no more symptoms of COVID-19.
This is an interesting study, because the results depended upon COVID symptoms, and not faulty PCR test results, such as those that were used for the COVID mRNA vaccine trials.
