COLUMBUS – The 4R Nutrient Stewardship Certification Program announced that Otte AG, LLC in Maria Stein has been added to its growing list of nutrient service providers to achieve certified status.
The voluntary certification program, now in its seventh year, is a concentrated effort by the agriculture industry to significantly reduce and prevent applied nutrients from running off fields, which has contributed to water quality issues in Lake Erie and other waterways across Ohio.
“The 4R Certification for our business, as independent consultants, will re-enforce our professionalism as trusted advisers who look out for the best interests of our clients,” said Kevin Otte, owner of Otte AG.

APPLY CORRECTLY: The purpose of the 4R fertilizer certification program is to ensure the right nutrient is applied at the right time in the right place at the right rate on Indiana fields. Officials explain how the 4R Nutrient Stewardship Certification Program can benefit farmers and all Hoosiers.
Expect to see a new designation more often where you buy fertilizer or if you work with a crop consultant. It’s the 4R Nutrient Stewardship Certification. The voluntary program officially launched in Indiana in November.
Amy Cornell, president of the Agribusiness Council of Indiana, explains that this is a global program that makes sense for Indiana. “We began working on it three years ago and partnered with the Indiana Ag Nutrient Alliance more recently,” she says. Cornell and Ben Wicker, director of IANA, were part of virtual programs announcing the new certification program and offering in-depth training.
