EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Four University of Evansville men’s basketball players reached double figures in an exciting comeback that saw the Purple Aces overcome a 16-point first half deficit to defeat Valparaiso by a final of 58-51 on Monday night at the Ford Center.
A 19-4 stretch in the first half saw Valparaiso (6-11, 3-5 MVC) open up a 28-12 lead. Evansville (8-8, 6-4 MVC) was able to cut that deficit to nine points at halftime before holding the Crusaders to just 18 second-half points on the way to a 7-point win. Jawaun Newton and Shamar Givance scored 12 points apiece. Newton was an efficient 6-for-8 from the field while Givance was credited with 5 assists and 5 rebounds. BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WFIE) - In a non-conference doubleheader hosted by Western Kentucky, the University of Evansville volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 win over Saint Louis before falling to WKU by a 3-0 final on Sunday at E.A. Diddle Arena.
Match 1 – Saint Louis
Alondra Vazquez and Melanie Feliciano recorded 20 and 17 kills, respectively, to lift the Aces (2-2, 1-1 MVC) to a 3-2 victory over Saint Louis. Allana McInnis notched 26 assists while Cecilia Thon accounted for 14 helpers and 15 digs. Laura Ruiz led the Purple Aces with 17 digs while Hannah Watkins posted a solo block and four block assists. Chloe Bontrager and Kate Tsironis also had four block assists. Saint Louis (0-2) was led by a 22-kill game from Maya Taylor.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The University of Evansville men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams opened the season with wins over Bellarmine, Saturday afternoon.
The men’s squad prevailed, winning 187-90 while the women posted a score of 175-96.
Sage Moore won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.00. Moore’s swim moved her from sixth to fourth place in the school record books, beating her previous best time by .5 seconds. She was also a part of the first place 400-yard medley relay (3:56.64) along with her teammates Iryna Tsesiul, Sonsoles Aguayo and Alexa Markl.
