CEO Jay Bregman planned to call them back soon as soon as New York was safe again. Within weeks, he’d changed his mind. Bregman broke his company’s lease and told his two dozen or so staffers they could keep working from home possibly for good. The gains were at once unexpected and immediate. Bregman is saving money on rent. He no longer has to persuade recruits to relocate to a crushingly expensive city. He’s increased his staff by 20% and for the first time added new hires in Texas and California.

U.S. District Judge Keith Watkins, in a decision Tuesday, dismissed the lawsuit calling it a “shotgun pleading” that makes a lot of accusations without organization or solid legal claims. The same judge in October had refused the suit’s request to block the mask rule, which health officials have credited with lessening the impact of COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. The mask order, which was first imposed in the summer and extends at least through Jan. 22, requires anyone over the age of 6 to wear masks in indoor public spaces and outdoors when it’s impossible to stay at least 6 feet away from others. New survey highlights continued impacts to businesses from COVID-19

Leominster Champion Results from a business impact survey issued to businesses located in North Central Massachusetts highlight the continued impacts to the local business community because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This new survey was conducted by the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the MassHire North Central Workforce Board, the Montachusett Regional Planning Commission, NewVue Communities and many of the cities and towns in North Central Massachusetts. Nearly 250 responses were received, representing businesses from all 27 cities and towns in North Central Massachusetts, including Leominster. Respondents reflected the top industries in the region, including health care, manufacturing, retail, food and beverages, financial services, education and agriculture among others.
