California Hospital Sees Staff COVID-19 Infections Drop To Single Digits After Achieving Herd Immunity

By: CBS News As COVID-19 vaccinations speed up across the United States, a hospital in hard-hit California says its staff has achieved herd immunity. In December, when the pandemic was at its peak in the state, UC Davis Medical Center had 231 employees out because of COVID-19.  On Wednesday, that number was just 10.  More than 56 million vaccine doses have been administered in the U.S. so far, although the nation is still far from the herd immunity scientists say the country needs to be safe. At UC Davis however, more than 90% of the staff has received at least their first shot and have achieved that threshold.

Edwin Yearwood and Kirk Brown confirmed that they were asked to participate in the Caribbean American Action Network’s (CAAN) live virtual Caribbean inauguration party on January 17, which will be held under the theme Celebrating #CaribbeanAmericanKamala. Toni Norville is also down to perform. “I feel blessed, honoured, excited, a little emotional and very proud because this is history in the making. This is the first female vice-president and the first black female vice-president of the United States with heavy Caribbean roots,” Yearwood said.

WILMINGTON, Del. - President-elect Joe Biden publicly received a second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine, part of an ongoing effort to instill confidence in its effectiveness as the pandemic worsens. Biden received his first shot on Dec. 21 at a hospital not far from his Delaware home. His wife, Jill Biden, was also vaccinated. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the Pfizer shots be administered 21 days apart.
