Eglin AFB-connected squadron conducts successful missile component test

The ARRW is being developed by aerospace and defense contractor Lockheed Martin through the Air Force Armament Directorate, an Eglin AFB-headquartered enterprise. During the Wednesday test, the B-52 received target data from more than 1,000 miles away and successfully took a simulated shot from nearly 700 miles away, according to a 53rd Wing news release. The test was conducted by the 49th Test and Evaluation Squadron (49th TES), a geographically separated unit of the 53rd Wing headquartered at Louisiana s Barksdale Air Force Base. “We were really exercising the data links that we needed in order to complete that kill chain loop, and then get the feedback to the players in the airspace that the simulated hypersonic missile was fired and effective,” Lt. Col. Joe Little, 53rd Test Management Group deputy commander, said in an Air Force news release announcing the successful test.

Eglin AFB, Florida F-35 software facility falling short, says report

EGLIN AFB The F-35 Joint Program Office (JPO), a combined group of civilian and Air Force and Navy uniformed personnel overseeing the ongoing development of the F-35 stealth fighter jet, has come under criticism from the Department of Defense (DoD) for apparent deficiencies at an F-35 software laboratory at Eglin Air Force Base. In a January report, the DoD s office of the Director, Operational Test & Evaluation (DOT&E), which oversees major defense acquisition programs, indicated that the F-35 Lightning II United States Reprogramming Laboratory (USRL) is falling short in its mission of testing and improving software essential for the fifth-generation stealth fighter jet.

Eglin-based Lockheed Martin Air Force missile test fails at Edwards AFB

EGLIN AFB A Monday test of a hypersonic missile under development by aerospace contractor Lockheed Martin through the Eglin Air Force Base-headquartered Air Force Armament Directorate was unsuccessful, according to a Tuesday news release issued through Eglin. During Monday s test, conducted from Edwards Air Force Base in California over the Point Mugu Sea Range, a booster vehicle failed to launch from the B-52H Stratofortress aircraft to which it was attached. Details on the exact nature of the failure were not available from the Air Force on Tuesday. The news release from Eglin AFB, calling the unsuccessful test  a setback, noted only that the booster vehicle encountered an issue on the aircraft and did not launch.
