Egypt will start to produce its first 2 million doses of the Chinese Sinovac coronavirus vaccine in June, Health Minister Hala Zayed said Sunday, under agreements Egypt signed with China last month.
This is part of 40 million Sinovav doses scheduled to be produced in the first year according to the agreements, Zayed told a press conference at the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA).

CAIRO, April 27 (Xinhua) The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) approved the Chinese Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in Egypt, said the authority in a statement on its Facebook page on early Wednesday.
Mahmoud Yassin, head of EDA s Central Administration for Biological and Innovative Products, said the step is part of the state s efforts to control the spread of COVID-19 and provide the vaccines for all citizens.
He added that the EDA has authorized the license of using the vaccine after carrying out the required assessment based on the international and domestic conditions to ensure the effectiveness and quality of the vaccine.
CAIRO: Five million doses of the Chinese Sinovac coronavirus vaccine will be produced within two months at the factories of the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (Vacsera), Hala Zayed, Egyptian minister of health and population, has announced.
This is part of an agreement that allows the production of a total of 40 to 60 million doses.
In televised statements, Zayed said that Egypt will receive a new shipment of the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine next week and another from Gavi (the Vaccine Alliance) in early May.
“The issue of vaccinating people against the coronavirus is a major challenge, especially since the industrialized countries give priority to vaccinating their citizens . and 50 percent of the vaccines that were produced went to only two countries,” she added.
CAIRO: Two agreements have been signed between the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (Vacsera), and the Chinese company Sinovac Biotech for biopharmaceuticals, to manufacture the coronavirus vaccine in Egypt.
The signing of the agreements comes as part of efforts to achieve technical cooperation in this vital field.
The plan is to take advantage of the vaccine developed by the Chinese company Sinovac, a leader in research, development, production and marketing in pharmaceutical preparations, and exchange experiences to support Vacsera, a specialist in the manufacture of vaccines in Egypt.
The move is expected to contribute to limiting the spread of the virus.
