One Year After Our Last In-Person Event, We Canât Wait to Be Back
March 12, 2021
It’s been just about a year now since TMR’s last in-person event, Travel Market Place West, wrapped up in Vancouver, Canada.
We, like the rest of the attendees, had no idea that the impact of COVID-19 would be so catastrophic that we’d not only be unable to complete our second event later in 2020 in Toronto, but we’d also be plunged into a lockdown at home and we’d spend the next year living in a new Zoom-centric world.
But now, 12 months removed from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in North America, there’s light at the end of the tunnel. In the U.S., the White House announced this week that all adults will be able to be vaccinated starting on May 1. In Canada, just this week the government entered the much-anticipated ramp-up phase of its national mass vaccination campaign.
Headquarter Happenings: Expedia Group is Optimistic Heading into 2021
December 17, 2020
Expedia Group, which includes Expedia, Hotels.com, Expedia Cruises, and more, held its annual conference last week, updating its members on how the company has dealt with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and reporting what they are seeing heading into the new year.
Matthew Eichorst, president of Expedia Cruises and Global Cruise Leader at Expedia Group, took some time during the week to talk to Travel Market Report about his take on 2020 and what the group is doing to prepare its advisors and franchise owners for 2021.
“Nobody knew the extent of where we were going to be going,” Eichorst told TMR. The group made a number of moves during the pandemic to help its franchise members the best it could, including being lenient with franchise fees and making its fee programs variable, with pricing attached to the recovery.
