TEXAS, USA State Representative Brooks Landgraf has filed a bill, prohibiting the storage and disposal of high-level waste in Texas.
Landgraf expresses how House Bill 2692 will keep high-level radioactive waste out of the oil patch.
“Texas will not be a dumping ground for the rest of the country. Passing HB 2692 will ensure that high-level radioactive waste is kept out of the oil patch and out of West Texas.”

As one Brunswick County power plant closes, another is looking to extend its operations for another two decades.
Capital Power will close its power plant near Southport by the end of this month. But the nearby Brunswick Nuclear Plant is looking to extend its operating license for the next 20 years.
The two power plants are located less than 2 miles from each other near Southport.
Duke Energy is in the process of renewing its operating license for six of its nuclear power plants located throughout North and South Carolina - including the one near Southport.
The company expects to begin the renewal process of its largest nuclear power plant in western South Carolina this year. Renewals of the other plant licenses will follow, according to a press release from the company. The license renewal process through the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission takes approximately five years.

LANSING, MI Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is objecting to the transfer of a nuclear power plant and a spent waste storage site on Lake Michigan, arguing that a Florida nuclear energy equipment company planning to take ownership of both sites lacks adequate financial resources and has underestimated decommissioning costs.
On Wednesday, Feb. 24, Nessel filed a petition to intervene in the transfer of the Palisades Nuclear Plant near South Haven and the Big Rock Point fuel storage site near Charlevoix with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), which is reviewing plans to transfer both site licenses to Holtec International of Jupiter, Fla., by the end of this year.
