PAULS VALLEY, Oklahoma -
A rural hospital in Garvin County opened Wednesday with new owners after the facility shuttered in 2018 under city ownership.
The facility, named the Southern Plains Medical Center of Garvin County, is operated by the Southern Plains Medical Group based in Chickasha.
“It’s a very good day for the community,” said hospital CEO Richard Mathis. “It’s something they deserve and hopefully we’ll meet the expectations they have of us.”
Mathis said medical services will expand in the coming months. To start, the facility offers X-Rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, and an emergency department.
“It is outrageous that more than 50 years after Medicare was enacted seniors still do not receive basic hearing, vision and dental coverage,” Sanders wrote. “Many seniors are unable to read a newspaper because they can’t afford eyeglasses, they can’t talk with their grandchildren because they can’t afford hearing aids and they have trouble eating because they can’t afford dentures.”
Sanders also called for lowering the eligibility age for Medicare, which is currently 65. “[W]e must lower Medicare eligibility for the millions of older workers who are in desperate need of healthcare,” he wrote. Now is the time to take bold steps on expanding access to Medicare, Sanders said, as Democrats have control of Congress and the White House.
Thanks to protests by two commercial space companies, NASA’s plans for sending American astronauts back to the moon by 2024 have been put on hold at least temporarily.
The National Team, a multi-company partnership spearheaded by Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin, and Alabama-based defence contractor Dynetics are both crying foul about a contract awarded to Elon Musk’s SpaceX last month for $2.9bn.
Both Dynetics and Blue Origin have filed protests with the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) against NASA, with Bezos’s company accusing the space agency of having “moved the goalposts at the last minute”.
The highly coveted contract is for a Human Landing System (HLS) that will ferry astronauts to the lunar surface for NASA. But the pending litigation has forced the United States space agency to put the brakes on any work related to the contract until the GAO issues its ruling, which is expected to be announced by August 4.
