In January 2021, after the override of President Trump’s veto, Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act (“NDAA”). The NDAA includes the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 2020 (the “Act”), which contains significant changes to the Bank Secrecy Act (“BSA”), along with changes relating to anti-money laundering (“AML”), counter-terrorism financing (“CTF”), and protections to the U.S. financial system against foreign interference.
Among the key reforms in the Act are the following: (1) substantial revision of the definition of “financial institution” to recognize innovations in financial technology; (2) establishment of new beneficial ownership reporting; and (3) requiring the U.S. Treasury to increase transparency and update the AML/CFT legal framework.
Now and again I get asked about “missing government files” (or “hidden files”) on UFOs. It’s an issue that a lot of people don’t seem to understand – and it’s also something that demonstrates a great amount of naivety on the part of the questioner. I’ll explain what I mean. It relates to both those who believe there are UFO conspiracies and those who don’t – but for very different reasons. On many occasions, when I’m in debate with skeptics and debunkers, someone will say something like this: “There can’t be any truth to Rendlesham Forest or to Roswell because nothing of any significance has ever surfaced through the Freedom of Information Act.” That is such a pathetic and uninformed approach to take. And, it’s also a misinformed stance. A few day ago, I used the words “La La Land” in an article here at Mysterious Universe. I’ll use it again: “La La Land.” I use it because that’s where some of the debunkers and skeptics are happy to dwell.

But without a larger majority in Congress, a lot of public policymaking will be left up to executive action.

(Thomson Reuters Foundation) - A crackdown by the United States on cotton imports from China’s Xinjiang region is a “big red flag” that should spur retailers to ensure their supply chains are free of forced labor involving Uighur Muslims, according to a senior U.S. customs official.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said this week it would detain all imports of cotton and tomato products from Xinjiang and require companies to either prove the products were slavery-free or ship them elsewhere.
The United Nations estimates at least 1 million Uighurs and other Muslims have been detained in Xinjiang, and many are said to be put to work. China denies mistreatment and says the camps are vocational training centers needed to combat extremism.
Some Democratic lawmakers are claiming that House Republicans conspired with the insurrectionists who attacked the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, going so far as to offer the attackers firsthand reconnaissance of the People’s House the day before the riot.
