Atlas Space Operations phased array antenna system has recently completed late-stage testing, solidifying it as a new Multi-Band/Multi-Mission (MBMM) antenna system, the company reported Dec. 17. Atlas has been developing the antenna system under a contract through the
U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) and in partnership with the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU).
According to Atlas, its engineers have used coherent beam forming in order to accept signals from multiple satellites on one array, which allows more efficient satellite communications in a smaller package. The team has auto-tracked both Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) and Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellites using multiple simultaneous contacts. Atlas reports there is no limit to the scale the antenna can achieve because of coherent beam forming, calling this development an industry first.

Raytheon has received security certification for new GPS modules and receivers from the Global Positioning Systems Directorate at the U.S. Air Force Space and Missile Systems Center.
The new modules and receivers will give military aircraft, ships, ground vehicles and weapon systems secure and reliable access to modernized GPS.
“Because GPS is under constant attack, we worked with our government partners to create new M-code modules and receivers that give the military secure and resilient navigation systems,” said Eric Ditmars, vice president of Raytheon’s Secure Sensor Solutions. “And since the tech is platform agnostic, it will work on a wide-range of platforms in the air, on the ground or at sea.”
President Donald Trump was impeached, but acquitted at the beginning of 2020. As the year closed, he lost the presidential race to Joe Biden. The former vice president was last candidate standing in a record field that saw more than 25 Democrats run for the nomination including Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders and surprise newcomer Pete Buttigieg.
These are just a few highlights of the events that took place throughout this year.
