US DOT&E reveals loss of 5GAT target prototype
by Richard Scott
The first prototype Fifth-Generation Aerial Target (5GAT) built for the US Department of Defense (DoD) was destroyed during a flight test in October 2020, the Pentagon’s Director, Operational Test and Evaluation (DOT&E) has revealed in its annual report to Congress.
A full-scale, low-observable unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sponsored by DOT&E, the 5GAT target is designed to enable platform and weapons test and evaluation (air-to-air and surface-to-air), pilot and ground-force training, and the development of tactics, techniques, and procedures against a stealthy fifth-generation threat.
Developed by STS, the 5GAT target is intended to emulate the characteristics of fifth-generation adversary aircraft. (US DoD)

President Joe Biden wasted little time fulfilling a campaign pledge by signing an executive order just hours after he was sworn in. But some Rio Grande Valley residents still have questions.
“It’s unclear whether or not, presently, if the proclamation is having the intended effect of pausing all border wall construction,” said Roberto Lopez of the Texas Civil Rights Project.
Biden’s order terminated the national emergency which allowed former President Donald Trump to appropriate funding reserved for the military to use on building the wall. But none of the border wall funding in the Valley came from those military funds it came from congressional funds.

Trilogy Metals Inc. has announced that the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) has signed agreements for right-of-ways for the Ambler Road Project with the US Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the National Park Service (NPS). The agreements grant a 50-year right-of-way on federally owned and managed land by the federal agencies for the future development of the Ambler Mining District Industrial Access Road.
On 23 July 2020, the BLM issued the joint record of decision (JROD) for the Ambler Road Project. The JROD approves the development of the northern or ‘A’ route which is to be a 211-mile-long gravel private access road in the southern Brooks Range foothills to provide industrial access to the Ambler Mining District. Along with the JROD, a Section 404 Permit, which is governed by the Clean Water Act (CWA), was issued by the US Army Corp. of Engineers (USACE) to AIDEA.
