Member of Maryland National Guard in Gaithersburg Competes for Best Warrior

Member of Maryland National Guard in Gaithersburg Competes for Best Warrior Sgt. James McGill, a radiology specialist with the 224th Medical Company Area Support in Gaithersburg, competed in the Maryland National Guard’s Best Warrior Competition. The multi-day marathon includes mental and physicals tests, “pushing these elite service members to their limits.” The March 11 to March 14 event was open to junior enlisted, noncommissioned officers and commissioned officers of the Maryland Army and Air National Guard. During the competition, McGill participated in the 12-mile ruck at the H. Steven Blum Military Reservation in Glen Arm, Maryland on March 11. McGill said, “I love competing with the best of the best. Right now in the Maryland National Guard, we have some of the top competitors in the country.”

Floyd Toomey, school constable and former police chief, dies

Delaware News Journal Many in Sussex County are mourning the loss of Phillip C. Showell Elementary School constable and former police chief Floyd Toomey. Toomey suffered a medical event  while at work Wednesday, March 10. A post on the town of Dagsboro Facebook page said he had suffered multiple strokes and was flown to Christiana Hospital to undergo testing. He was unable to recover and died March 14. Toomey became a constable at Showell Elementary in Selbyville in 2019. “Mr. Toomey rendered a great service to our district by giving parents the peace of mind that their children were safe while on school grounds. We are deeply saddened by his passing, which leaves a huge void in the PCS community, said Indian River School District Superintendent Jay Owens.
