As of Monday morning, 21,500 National Guard troops were in Washington, D.C., according to a new update from the National Guard Bureau provided to American Military News.
In total, 25,000 National Guard troops had been authorized to deploy in the National Capitol Region (NCR) on Friday. The troops are arriving in support of President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 20.

The Pentagon had previously approved 21,000 troops for the city on Thursday, days after approving 15,000 troops on Monday. As of Friday, only about 7,000 troops had arrived in the city, and 14,000 more arrived over the weekend.

CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo The sound of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter rotors thrummed overhead as strong winds rocked the aircraft.
On the ground, Sgt. Abraham Boxx, a critical care flight paramedic with the 1st Battalion, 168th General Support Aviation Battalion, Washington Army National Guard, prepared Soldiers for personnel evacuation during dynamic hoist training, Jan. 2, at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo.
On Friday, the National Guard Bureau announced it had increased the number of troops authorized to deploy to Washington D.C., to 25,000 to support President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration.

The National Guard Bureau confirmed the new authorization in a Friday press statement. The increase comes only one day after the bureau increased the authorization to 21,000 troops on Thursday, up from 15,000 on Monday.

The Department of Health Services reported 8,715 additional known cases and 208 additional deaths, increasing the pandemic totals to 666,901 cases and 11,248 deaths.
