31 NAVAL STATION EVERETT, Wash. – Rear Adm. Christopher J. Sweeney relieved Rear Adm. James A. Kirk as Commander, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 11, during a ceremony held at Naval Station Everett, April 30. Kirk, from Hershey, Pennsylvania, assumed command of CSG-11 in May 2020. LAWRENCE | STARS AND STRIPES Published: April 30, 2021 KABUL, Afghanistan – Deadly insider attacks in the Afghan security forces nearly doubled this year compared to 2020, fueling fears that local troops and police will be hard pressed to maintain stability in the country as the U.S. withdraws, a U.S. government report and analysts said Friday. Insider attacks spiked by 82% in the first three months of this year compared to the same period in 2020, with one occurring every three days, said the report by the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction. The number of Afghan soldiers and police killed in the attacks more than doubled compared to January to March last year, to 115, said the report, which was released as the U.S. military withdrawal from the country was underway.
