Now, a new report suggests that
clearing encampments may be ineffective and harmful a point long argued by activists.
Nichole Fiore, a senior associate for the consultancy Abt Associates and co-author of the report, spoke to my colleague A Martínez about her research. Fiore explained that in many American cities, governments forcefully clear encampments, shut down the area, and offer former residents support in connecting to social services.
The proposal would also eliminate the requirement for workers to stay six feet apart.
In its current iteration, the proposal would put those changes into effect in early August. But in a clip posted on
Twitter, Newsom told KTTV reporter

In federal court yesterday, attorneys for L.A. County pressed a judge to dismiss the county from a lawsuit filed last year, which would force local officials to take more aggressive action on the area’s homelessness crisis.
Lawyers representing the county have claimed that their client is not responsible for the crisis, and that blame should fall squarely on city officials. Yesterday, the defendant s attorneys argued that the court was overstepping by trying to dictate how to allocate government funds.

The city of L.A. wants to make coronavirus vaccines as
all city-run vaccine sites will now be appointment-free. Additionally, health workers will operate some sites for later hours, and another late-night site will open in South L.A.
Beginning this week, the city’s vaccination sites at Pierce College and L.A. Southwest College will be open from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. In South L.A., a vaccination site at Green Meadows Recreation Center will now be open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.
