Apple Watch may one day introduce Gesture input that is driven by Machine Learning and Multiple Sensors

Apple Watch may one day introduce Gesture input that is driven by Machine Learning and Multiple Sensors   In the last two years various Apple Watch teams have worked on adding gesture recognition to Apple Watch as covered in a series of patent reports (01, 02 & 03). Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that covers this subject matter once again, though from a different angle that uses machine-learning based gesture recognition using multiple sensors.   Apple notes that that the Apple Watch may be configured to include various sensors. For example, the Apple Watch may be equipped with one or more biosignal sensors (e.g., a photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor), as well as other types of sensors (e.g., a motion sensor, an optical sensor, an audio sensor and the like). The various sensors may work independently and/or in conjunction with each other to perform one or more tasks, such as detecting device position, environmental conditions, user

A Deeper Apple Patent details methods and support for Multi-SIM and eSIM for iDevices and Macs

A Deeper Apple Patent details methods and support for Multi-SIM and eSIM for iDevices and Macs   Back in September 2018 Apple s SVP of Worldwide Marketing introduced eSIM and Dual SIM with iPhone XS and XS Max. The video below presents that part of the keynote outlining these new technologies. The video is set up to start at the 1:17:30 mark of the keynote. You could stop it 2 minutes later when that segment is over.      In January of this year Patently Apple posted a report titled Apple s Patent covering iPhone eSIM and Dual SIM Reveals that it was first filed in China.     Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that generally relate to wireless communications, and more particularly, to methods and apparatus to support access to services for multiple subscriber identity modules (SIMs) simultaneously by a single-radio, multiple SIM (multi-SIM) wireless device. It s a much deeper patent than the one that we covered back in Janu

Apple invents an Adaptive Display to assist users avoid eye discomfort transitioning from a dark VR Headset to a bright environment

Apple invents an Adaptive Display to assist users avoid eye discomfort transitioning from a dark VR Headset to a bright environment   On Tuesday, Patently Apple posted a granted patent report titled Apple wins Patent for a unique lighting system designed to assist a user s eyes adjust from a bright environment to a dark VR Headset and vice versa. The original title of the patent was Electronic device with adaptive lighting system. The image below is from Apple s granted patent.     Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that relates to adaptive displays for head-mounted devices, that shares the same foundation as the patent granted to Apple on Tuesday. The title of this patent is close but different: Electronic Device with Adaptive Display. The focus in this patent is on the adaptive display and not necessarily the lighting system.

Apple s iOS Car Keys Patent was published by the U S Patent Office today covering locks, ignition and issues

Apple s iOS Car Keys Patent was published by the U.S. Patent Office today covering locks, ignition and issues   At last year s WWDC 2020 Apple introduced Keyless entry into a BMW 5 Series vehicle, the first car to have this feature. The feature is designed to unlock/lock a vehicle as well as start a vehicle. Below is a video segment from Apple s WWDC 2020.   Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that relates to this vehicle system, and, more particularly, to interactions between vehicle remote keyless systems and wireless power systems in detail that includes dealing with the issue of possibly degrading the remote keyless system s performance.

Apple continues their work on the possible use of Face ID Heat Mapping to better identify users wearing a Mask & more

Apple continues their work on the possible use of Face ID Heat Mapping to better identify users wearing a Mask & more   Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a continuation patent from Apple that relates to advancing Face ID with the use of heat maps to assess occlusion of landmarks on a user s face in a captured image. At a time when users are wearing COVID masks, heat mapping is a way to assist Face ID remain viable.     Biometric authentication processes are being used more frequently to allow users to more readily access their devices without the need for passcode or password authentication. One example of a biometric authentication process is fingerprint authentication using a fingerprint sensor. Facial recognition is another biometric process that may be used for authentication of an authorized user of a device. Facial recognition processes are generally used to identify individuals in an image and/or compare individuals in images to a database of individuals
