Apple Files a Major Update to their Foldable Device Patent and a minor update to a Bio-Authentication System Patent for Apple Watch
On Thursday the US Patent & Trademark Office published a major continuation patent from Apple relating to possible future folding devices. Apple is either adding 20 new claims or rewriting their original patents claims for this invention. Apple doesn t proclaim which of the two it is.
Patently Apple has been closely monitoring this particular invention. We ve posted several granted patents reports on this (01, 02 and 03) and posted our original patent report on this in August 2018 titled Apple invents both Single and Multi-Fold Device Form Factors for Future iDevices.
A Second Apple Patent Supporting Future MacBook s with Built-in Reverse Charging to Power Up iDevices was Published today
One of the first granted patents of 2021 was covered in our report titled Apple has been Granted a Pair of 2-Way Charging Patents for a Future MacBook Pro that could Recharge iDevices and more, as illustrated in our cover graphic.. Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that relates to this very technology in a patent application titled Wireless power transfer system and devices.
Apple s patent covers a wireless power system that has a wireless power transmitting device (which may also be referred to in some instances as a wireless power transmitter
Apple Invents Fiber Composite Friction Hinges that could be used in Future Foldable Devices and HMD Finger Accessories
Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that relates to hinges that could be used in the construction of devices such as a finger device to be used with a future HMD system, a foldable iPhone or iPad and MacBook.
Electronic devices may have portions that are joined with hinges. For example, a laptop computer may have a display housing that is coupled to a keyboard housing with a hinge. The hinge allows the laptop to be opened and closed and allows a user to adjust the angle at which the display housing is oriented.
Apple Reveals R&D into allowing iPhones to communicate in Underwater and Underground Environments
Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple that relates to magneto-inductive charging and communication in certain environments such as underwater and underground where networks aren t available.
Apple notes that within certain environments (e.g., underwater environments, underground environments, high-altitude environments, rural areas, and so forth) wireless electronic devices may not be able to connect to, for example, cellular networks and/or internet networks. Consequently, the wireless electronic devices may not be able to communicate in such environments.
Accordingly, it may be useful to provide techniques useful in allowing wireless electronic devices to communicate in the absence of cellular and/or internet connectivity.
