Alert – U.S. Embassy Santo Domingo (January 11, 2021) Location:  Dominican Republic The government of the Dominican Republic has extended the state of emergency and nationwide curfew.  Failure to follow the curfew, including for U.S. citizens, may result in arrest and/or fines.  Full details on the curfew can be found at https://presidencia.gob.do/          January 11-26 (M-F):  Curfew from 5pm to 5am, with a grace period for transit until 8pm each day. January 11-26 (Sa-Sun):  Curfew from 12pm to 5am, with a grace period for transit until 3pm each day. There is a Level 3 Travel Advisory recommending U.S. citizens reconsider travel to the Dominican Republic due to health and safety measures and COVID-19-related conditions.

Domestic Travel Restrictions Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, the Thai government and provincial governments are enacting a variety of emergency disease control measures.  The Thai government has extended its emergency decree until February 28, 2021.  A growing number of provinces are categorized by the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) as “red zones” (28 as of January 6, including Bangkok and Nonthaburi) and subject to disease control prevention measures, including the closure of some businesses.  Many provinces have begun to tighten entry requirements for people traveling between provinces in Thailand and there are reports of health checkpoints being established at some provincial border crossings.

Nonthaburi Event: Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health continues to report a rise in new cases of locally-transmitted Covid-19, most of which are related to the outbreak at a seafood market at Samut Sakhon and a smaller cluster associated with a social gathering in Rayong.  On December 27, 121 new cases were reported, of which 94 were locally-transmitted.    U.S. citizens traveling over the holidays should monitor the news to stay abreast of the latest reports on Covid-19 cases and any changes to provincial transportation and business operating status that could impact their travel plans.
