Manger, 66, was a police chief for six years in Fairfax County, Virginia, and for 15 years in Montgomery County, Maryland. After he retired in 2019, Montgomery County named its police headquarters after him.

The Penns Woods Music Festival is a decades-long tradition: a professional festival held each year in June on Penn State’s University Park Campus. Like so many events, it was cancelled in 2020 due to the pandemic. And it couldn’t be held in June this year, either, due to pandemic restrictions. The US Capitol Police Board announced July 22 the selection of Tom Manger as chief of the United States Capitol Police following a nationwide recruitment effort.

The US Capitol Police Board announced Thursday the selection of Tom Manger as chief of the United States Capitol Police following a nationwide recruitment effort.
Manger, who will assume command on Friday, said in a statement, “The challenges in protecting the Capitol campus, and everyone who works or visits there, have never been more complex. The courage and dedication of the men and women of this agency were on great display on Jan. 6th.”
