Chess Expert Zooms In To Share Knowledge With Falmouth Players

For the past twenty years, chess instructor Glenn Davison has found great enjoyment in sharing his knowledge of chess with others. Although he does not live in Falmouth, he recently shared his passion for the game with Upper Cape residents via his online chess courses at the Falmouth Public and West Falmouth libraries. When asked where his passion for chess began, Mr. Davison recalled fond memories of time spent with his father. “My father, who was also a chess teacher, taught me how to play at the age of six”, he said. While a career with large corporations doing remote and in-person training kept him busy for many years, he wanted to dedicate some of his retirement doing the thing he’s loved for most of his life. To Mr. Davison, chess is not a profession but a life’s passion, brought on by his father. Continuing in his footsteps, Mr. Davison now shares his love of chess with the world.

Grandmaster Aronian says he is leaving Armenia, will represent U S

2 Min Read MOSCOW (Reuters) - Chess grandmaster Levon Aronian said on Friday he was leaving Armenia and would represent the United States, citing what he said was Armenian officials’ indifference to chess as one of the reasons. The 38-year-old, who is ranked sixth in the world, announced his decision on his Facebook page. “The past year has been very difficult for all of us with a pandemic, a war and in my case there was personal adversity and the state’s absolute indifference towards Armenian chess,” he wrote, referring to six weeks of fighting between ethnic Armenian and Azeri forces over the Nagorno-Karabkah enclave.

GM Wesley So officially becomes US citizen

Published March 5, 2021, 12:59 PM Hopes of Wesley So playing again for the Philippines diminished after the Cavite-born player officially became a United States citizen. The US Chess Federation announced this Thursday (Friday, March 5 in Manila), saying that the 27-year-old So officially became a US citizen last Feb. 26 at the US Citizenship and Immigration Services office in St. Paul/Minneapolis in Minnesota. “I love that anyone can strive to succeed,” So said in an interview with Debbie Cannon of the US Citizenship and Immigration Services at his ceremony in February. “You are not held back by your color, lack of connections or the amount of money you have. If you work hard, you have a better chance of making it here than anywhere else in the world.”
