DETROIT (AP) Ford is forming a joint venture that will build two North American factories to make batteries for roughly 600,000 electric vehicles per year by the middle of this decade.
The deal with battery maker SK Innovation of Korea, announced Thursday, sets up a potential confrontation between the companies and the United Auto Workers, which issued a statement saying Ford has a moral obligation to make sure plant workers are paid union wages.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., May 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ AliveCor, a leading innovator in FDA-cleared personal electrocardiogram (ECG) technology and services, today announced that the US International Trade Commission (ITC) issued a Notice of Institution of an Investigation into Apple s alleged infringement of three AliveCor patents. Last month, AliveCor filed the case with ITC, alleging the infringement and seeking to bar the importation of Apple Watches incorporating the infringing technology into the United States.
The ITC announcement came late Thursday and commences an inquiry into whether Apple illegally incorporated AliveCor s patented electrocardiogram monitor technology into the Apple Watch.

WASHINGTON The imposition in January of elevated import duties on consumer tires shipped from South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam has skewed the U.S. marketplace markedly since then, with imports from Taiwan and Thailand down measurably through the first three months of 2021.
Imports of passenger tires and light truck tires from Taiwan dropped 41.2% and 99.6%, respectively, in the period, according to Commerce Department data. Based on comment from companies that sell tires sourced from Taiwan, imports are likely to keep declining unless Commerce adjusts the duties downward.
Likewise, imports from Thailand fell 16.3% and 28.3%, respectively.
