AT&T to upgrade DoT networks 11 MAY 2021 AT&T won a contract to modernise and maintain voice and data networks for the US Department of Transportation (DoT) over the next 12 years, a deal the operator stated taps a growing trend of government bodies accessing cloud services. Chris Smith, VP for civilian and shared services in the public sector, said the $175 million contract will include cloud technologies, 5G and security systems. He predicted a trend of government departments migrating workloads to the public cloud will continue, noting each agency “constantly works through the balance of what’s in their colocation private facilities and what’s in public cloud and finding the right balance” for their needs.

ReadyH2 Expands Hydrogen Compressed Gas Tank Offerings

NGT News February 24, 2021 ReadyH2, a subsidiary of Fortress Solutions and Fortress UAV, says via its partnership with Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI), it is extending its offering of U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved hydrogen compressed gas tanks for wider use and distribution in the U.S. and Canada. DMI was one of the first companies to receive such approval from the U.S. DOT. ReadyH2 says it currently serves as the premier partner for all DMI’s customer and dealer hydrogen tank and fuel needs. This new expansion opens the door for new business opportunities and new companies in search of a partner for their own carbon-fiber, compressed hydrogen tank and fuel needs.

RwandAir Eyes U S, West African Market with New York Route

The national carrier RwandAir is eying the New York route via Accra, Ghana. Rwanda’s national carrier RwandAir has filed an application with the U.S Department of Transportation (DoT) to begin flights between Kigali and New York tapping into the growing market and traffic between the U.S and Rwanda. The application submitted on January 18, 2021 seen by KT Press, Rwandair requested the amendment of its foreign air carrier permit under this docket (DOT-OST- 2017-0049), permitting RwandAir to provide scheduled and charter foreign air transportation for passengers, property (including cargo) and mail to and from the United States. The move follows five years since the Government of Rwanda designated RwandAir to perform foreign air transportation services between the United States and Rwanda as seen in letters (No. 2619/09.16/03/16 dated October 11, 2016) and diplomatic efforts dating back in the 2016.

With ambiguity around what an emotional support animal is (they were classified as service animals that were allowed on planes without any fee), airlines accommodated requests from fliers who asked their pet be flown with them to help ease anxiety and offer comfort, with a note from a mental health professional. Many have unsuccessfully tried to take their snakes, spiders, peacocks, and rodents with them.
