Dr. Erdenekhuu Nansalmaa, a 2009 Fulbright Foreign Student, MD, PhD, MPH
Interim Director of the National Cancer Center of Mongolia
Born as the youngest of a cattle ranching family in Uvs province, Dr. Erdenekhuu Nansalmaa went on to become the dean of the education policy and management department at the leading medical university in Mongolia, the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS), and later interim director of the National Cancer Center of Mongolia.
He overcame many obstacles on his academic and professional journey. After high school, he initially failed to be accepted to the prestigious MNUMS but was admitted after an intensive year of study and successfully passing entrance exams. Dr. Erdenekhuu was inspired by the words of former U.S. First Lady and first chairperson of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights Eleanor Roosevelt: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

USAID assistance is boosting the capacity of Mongolian government partners and communities to prepare for and respond to the negative impacts of natural disasters.
January 12, 2021, Ulaanbaatar – The U.S. government, through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), launched a two-year, MNT 3.7 billion ($1.3 million) project to boost the resilience of Mongolian communities against natural hazards.
USAID’s Disaster Resilient Communities project, implemented in partnership with World Vision, will help vulnerable urban and rural communities in Mongolia to stay safe and protect livelihoods during extreme weather events and natural disasters.

Virtual Celebration of the Anniversary of the Fulbright Program Funded by the Government of Mongolia Connects Fulbrighters and Reaches an Audience of Thousands
On December 19, 2020, the Embassy of the United States in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and the Ministry of Education and Science virtually celebrated the 10th anniversary of the agreement establishing the Fulbright Foreign Student Program funded by the Government of Mongolia.
The four-hour online celebration featured six panel discussions and over 30 university presentations, attracted around 750 participants, and reached tens of thousands more on Facebook and other social media platforms. The opening session was simulcast live on Facebook, reached over 11,500 people, and has been viewed over 5,600 times by Monday, December 21.
