Ambassador Vrooman Recognizes Four Rwandan Women of Courage

March 11, 2021 U.S. Ambassador to Rwanda Peter H. Vrooman recognized four Rwandan Women of Courage Thursday at a special Women’s History Month virtual panel discussion highlighting advocates for persons with disabilities. The women honored include: Donatilla Kanimba, Executive Director, Rwanda Union of the Blind (RUB)  Christine Mukeshimana, Founder, Help for Disabled and Vulnerable Children (HDVC)  Agnes Mukashyaka, Founder, Izere Mubyeyi Center  Gaudence Mushimiyimana, Co-founder and Executive Director, Rwanda Organization of Women with Disabilities (UNABU) Since 2015, the U.S. Embassy in Kigali has helped recognize and celebrate Rwandan Women of Courage who are making a real difference in their communities. Sixteen (16) inspiring women have been honored to date for demonstrating exceptional courage, strength, and leadership in advocating for social justice and the most vulnerable members of society.

Home | News & Events | Applications Now Open for the 2nd Academy for Women Entrepreneurs U.S. Embassy Kigali announces the opening of applications for the 2nd cohort of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE) training program, a Department of State initiative to support women entrepreneurs globally.  Through the academy, Rwanda women entrepreneurs aged 18-35 will receive personalized business mentorship, as well as professional knowledge, tools and networks, in order to turn their ideas into successful businesses. The program will be carried out by the U.S. Embassy, in partnership with Igire Rwanda Organization and Noble Women.  AWE uses DreamBuilder, an online training program on women’s entrepreneurship developed through a partnership between Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Management and Freeport-McMoRan.  The curriculum teaches women to create their own business plans, understand how to raise capital, and connect with networks of successful
