NEW YORK, NY (Jan. 11, 2021) Thousands of different genetic mutations have been implicated in cancer, but a new analysis of almost 10,000 patients found that regardless of the cancer s origin, tumors could be stratified in only 112 subtypes and that, within each subtype, the Master Regulator proteins that control the cancer s transcriptional state were virtually identical, independent of the specific genetic mutations of each patient.
The study, published Jan. 11 in
Cell, confirms that Master Regulators provide the molecular logic that integrates the effect of many different and patient-specific mutations to implement the transcriptional state of a specific tumor subtype, thus greatly expanding the fraction of patients who may respond to the same treatment.

But a study published on Jan. 11 in

The research suggests that MLL4 controls the production of neurons that secrete growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) in a part of the brain called the hypothalamus. Mice without working copies of the MLL4 gene in this area had stunted growth and markedly fewer GHRH neurons. Mice with only one functioning copy of the gene had similar problems.

(Bloomberg) In 2020, the pharmaceutical industry raced to develop shots against a deadly new virus sweeping the globe and succeeded, in record time. They did it while navigating the pandemic themselves, managing operations and supply chains amid profound disruption.
As the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference, the sector’s biggest annual gathering, kicks off virtually on Monday, drugmakers are set to revel in those accomplishments. But their enthusiasm is bound to be muffled by the prospect of increased regulation and price pressure.
As the pandemic raged, pharma companies continued to hike prices while their stocks soar. Now that Democrats stand ready to control Congress and the presidency, the industry faces newly empowered critics who don’t see them in the rosy light of altruism.
