From Feb. 8 to March 27 our community will celebrate “The Round House” by Louise Erdrich with a full calendar of events including book discussions for all age groups throughout the county, several storywalks around the different towns in our area, featuring Nisenan and Native storybooks.

The NEA Big Read in Nevada County is presented by the Nevada County Community Library in partnership with the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools and the Friends of the Nevada County Library of with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and Book to Action.

In conjunction with this release, SBPL will be hosting a workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 for veterans who are transitioning to a civilian job or looking for a new one. The workshop, led in partnership with county Veterans Service officer Joseph Fletcher, a veteran himself, will help individuals explain their military experience in a way that shows their leadership, skills, and experience in ways a civilian workforce can understand.
Workshop topics will include: translating military skills to civilian/corporate speak; tips on avoiding or best conversions for acronyms; and figuring out how to articulate what you did in the military and how it can relate to the job for which you are applying.

Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft announced that Boonslick Regional Library will open a Technology Mini grant of $ 17,515.
“Missouri’s libraries serve as vital resources for their communities,” said Ashcroft. “Last year, library directors and staff developed new ways to reach their customers and provide services. These grants help libraries provide the technology they need to expand their services and meet the needs of their customers. “

The library will use the grant to purchase and install eight early literacy stations in four locations.
