ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - President Joe Biden’s 60-day moratorium on new oil and natural gas leases and drilling permits is prompting widespread concerns in New Mexico, where spending on education and other public programs hinges on the industry’s success.
Top Republicans in the state as well as local leaders in communities that border the Permian Basin - one of the most productive regions in the U.S. - say any moves to make permanent the suspension would be economically devastating for the state. Half of New Mexico s production happens on federal land and amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties each year.

SAN DIEGO - In the days before Joe Biden became president, construction crews worked quickly to finish Donald Trump’s border wall at an iconic cross-border park overlooking the Pacific Ocean, which then-first lady Pat Nixon inaugurated in 1971 as a symbol of international friendship.
On his first day in office, Biden ordered a pause on all wall construction within a week, one of 17 executive orders issued on his first day in office, including six dealing with immigration.

On Tuesday, the website announced the launch of its first Share Your Story contest, calling on all adventurers to submit their stories and photos highlighting their recent outdoor activities for a chance to win cash prizes and to have their story featured on Recreation.gov.
