Florida firefighters end their search for remains from Miami-area condo collapse
The Miami-Dade County fire and rescue department on Friday declared an end to its search for more human remains in the rubble of a Florida condominium complex that collapsed on June 24, killing at least 97 people. Authorities said one victim was still believed to be unaccounted for. The Miami-Dade Police Department will continue to sift through what is left of the debris pile for additional remains and personal effects, officials said in a statement.

OREGON, July 24 ― Strike teams making headway against a huge wildfire in Oregon faced a resurgence of dry, windy weather yesterday while an outbreak of Covid-19 among firefighters posed a new complication in battling the three-week-old blaze.
Hundreds of miles to the northeast, the US Bureau of Land Management reported that five firefighters in Montana were injured on Thursday when a sudden shift in the wind blew flames over their position on the edge of a much smaller wildfire there.

Lawsuit Launched to Protect National Conservation Area in Arizona From Destructive Cattle Grazing
TUCSON,
Ariz.― The Center for Biological Diversity and Maricopa Audubon Society filed a notice of intent today to sue the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and the Fish and Wildlife Service for failing to protect critical habitat for threatened and endangered species in the Gila Box Riparian National Conservation Area in southeastern Arizona.
Recent field surveys by the Center documented extensive cattle grazing damage in this protected area, which is a haven for birds, fish and other wildlife.

Mount Diablo is the northern peak of the Diablo Range, which begins at the Carquinez Strait, runs south to include the Altamont Pass near Livermore and Mount Hamilton east of San Jose, and continues through 12 counties for a total of 150 miles to the Antelope Valley. Its highest peak, San Benito Mountain, reaches 5,267 feet.
These vast mountains, hills and valleys are often not recognized as the Diablo Range even as residents traverse them via the Altamont Pass and Pacheco Pass en route to Interstate 5, where the range serves as the backdrop in the West for motorists to Southern California.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee this morning deadlocked Thursday on Montanan Tracy Stone-Manning’s nomination to lead the US Bureau of Land Management.
The 10-10 tie still sends the nomination to the Senate, as Committee Chairman Democrat Joe Manchin explains.
“It becomes my duty under Senate resolution 27 to transmit a notice of the tie vote to the Secretary of the Senate. After which the Majority leader may make a motion to discharge the nomination,” Manchin says. “If the motion is agreed to, place the nomination on the executive calendar. This concludes our business before the committee. The committee stands adjourned.”
