The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, established in 1964, recognizes the country s most distinguished graduating high school seniors, according to the U.S. Department of Education s website. The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects students based on their academic success, essays, school evaluations, transcripts, community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. The program has honored over 7,600 students since its creation.
The program expanded in 1979 to recognize students in the arts and those who excel in career and technical education fields. Kasey was recognized this year as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts.
Kasey started playing the piano 11 years ago. She said she was a very active child growing up and her mom introduced her to the instrument as a way to get her to sit down and concentrate on something.

Raising awareness
Members of the junior class at Greely High School in Cumberland and their families see the fruits of their labor after planting over 4,000 tulip bulbs in October 2020. According to Junior Class Adviser Katie Dexter, the purpose of the plantings, besides adding beautification to the school campus, is to show awareness and support for multiple causes, including breast cancer, social justice, mental health and pride. CUMMING, GA Two Forsyth County class of 2021 seniors have been named semi-finalists for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
As semi-finalists for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, Varun Goel of Denmark High School, and Pujith Veeravelli of South Forsyth High School, are among 700 students from the more than 3 million graduating seniors in the nation s class of 2021 selected to advance in the prestigious recognition program. Only 18 students from Georgia were named semi-finalists.
The program was established in 1964, by executive order of the president, to honor and recognize extraordinary graduating seniors. Candidates for the invitation-only recognition program are initially selected based on outstanding performance on the ACT or SAT; semi-finalists and finalists are chosen based on an application that considers overall academic exc
