TUPELO • The release last week of detailed population data from the U.S. Census Bureau means that the process to reshape Mississippi’s political geography can now begin in earnest.
Across the nation, the growth in the number of people who identified as multiracial on 2020 census responses soared over the last decade, rising from under 3% to more than 10% of the U.S. population from 2010 and 2020.
In the wake of this week’s Census numbers release, the news media has widely reported a seeming reduction in the number of white people, both nationally and here in Illinois.
