There is a new kind of police force emerging in America. At first glance it is familiar: Officers carry guns, can make arrests and generally cannot be prosecuted for on-duty actions.
But unlike typical police forces, these departments operate largely in secrecy. They don t have to tell the public much about their operations, and there is no public board looking over their shoulder.
The Wyoming Department of Health has announced that the first COVID-19 vaccine shipments have arrived in Wyoming and are in the process of being distributed.
The first shipments arrived on Monday, carrying an initial 4,875 doses divided into five packages of 975 doses each. The first two of these packages have been delivered to the public health departments in Casper and Cheyenne. The remaining three packages will be delivered on Tuesday to hospitals in Cody, Jackson, and Gillette.
Among those three remaining counties, various factors will go into deciding how to distribute the vaccines.
Kim Deti, a spokesperson for the Wyoming Department of Health stated that different counties will have differences in their overall distribution plan.
CHEYENNE Vaccinations intended to help prevent future COVID-19 infections have started in Wyoming, according to the Wyoming Department of Health (WDH).
Dr. Alexia Harrist, state health officer and state epidemiologist with WDH, said the first approved vaccine is recommended for most people who are age 16 and older with two doses about three weeks apart needed for the vaccine to be effective.
“Putting an end to this pandemic will take all our tools. Now we can add vaccines to wearing masks, social distancing and staying home when we are ill,” she said. “For now and for some months to come, we need all of these strategies as we work to eliminate this virus and to help things get back to normal as soon as possible.”
