Police continue to appeal for witnesses following death of mum in Jaywick

Michelle Cooper, 40, from Clacton, was reported to have been assaulted in Beach Way on April 23. She was admitted to hospital with a head injury, but died on Sunday 25 April. She was officially named by Essex Police on Saturday. Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Insp Steve Jennings, from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, added: “Our investigation into Michelle’s death continues. “It is not too late to speak to us if you have any information that will help my officers. “I appreciate incidents like this can cause concern to the local community, but we believe this was an isolated attack with no risk to the wider public.”

Michael Turnball, 65, implored the public to contact Kent police if they had any information that could help catch the perpetrator, who he said had left behind a “family full of broken hearts and sadness”. “I have loved Julia since the day she was born,” he wrote in a Facebook post. “Julia is funny, kind, caring, always saw the good in people and most of all full of love. Julia has been taken from us by some worthless cowardly excuse for a human being. Please share this and let us find this monster before he can cause more grief to another family.”

The 40-year-old is alleged to have been assaulted in Beach Way last Friday. She was taken to hospital with a head injury but died on Sunday. Bobby Nethercott, 31, of Park Square East, Jaywick, has been charged in connection with her murder. He has also been charged with two counts of actual bodily harm. Nethercott appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and is set to appear again at Chelmsford Crown Court on  June 4.
