A 23-year-old man who allegedly attacked and seriously injured two women as they walked their dogs in Haverhill on Wednesday afternoon was held without bail Thursday at his arraignment on assault charges.
Jake Kavanaugh, of Haverhill, pleaded not guilty in Haverhill District Court to armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and mayhem and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to a release from the Essex District Attorney’s Office.
During the incident on Fairview Farm Road around 4:47 p.m., Kavanaugh allegedly attacked a 54-year-old woman and her 26-year-old daughter as they walked their dogs.

Kavanaugh is charged with armed assault to murder; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury; assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, mayhem; and negligent operation of a motor vehicle, according to the Essex District Attorney s Office.
Kavanaugh is accused of running down two of his neighbors 54-year-old Janet Blanchard and her pregnant, 26-year-old daughter Geena Sindoni twice with his car and then stabbing the mother with a box cutter. Blanchard sustained cuts to both of her eyes and her neck.

A man is in custody after two women were attacked in a Massachusetts town Wednesday, according to authorities.
The two women were attacked on Fairview Farm Road in Haverhill, the Essex District Attorney’s Office said in a statement
One of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries and was flown via medical helicopter to Boston for treatment. She was still alive at 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, the prosecutor’s office noted.
Jake Kavanaugh, of Haverhill, is in custody, according to the statement from the district attorney’s office.
