Rose Matafeo has said people should not regard “female comedy” as being its own genre.
The comedian, 29, who is from New Zealand, told the Radio Times there is “so much further to go” in making comedy more diverse.
She added there are still barriers to diversity within the industry.

Last year comedian Tom Ballard thought he was feeling somewhat burnt out when it came to performing. Then lockdown started.
âI was getting to the point where it was just not as magic as it normally is â then you donât do it for eight months and you think, actually, this is really great.â
He concedes though, that he was nervous after such a long break. Aside from some âweirdâ gigs in that brief period between lockdowns last June, his gigs started to slowly come back at the end of last year.
