The 1988 Fairport High School graduate will be part of the first all-civilian crew to go into space later this year in a vehicle manufactured by SpaceX. When she was at Fairport High School during the 1980s, Sian Proctor was “basically a wallflower.” It s a surprising admission from someone who is likely to be floating above the planet in space later this year. The 51-year-old beat out 200 entrepreneurs for a coveted spot on a history-making SpaceX mission, which will orbit the Earth for three days.

Faires Faculty Forum: Professor looks at mental health of frontline workers in incarcerated settings Share on: Posted on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 Dr. Jamie Chapman, assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice at Westminster College, will present “Perspectives of Frontline Mental Health Workers in Incarcerated Settings” at the Faires Faculty Forum at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, via Zoom. Chapman will discuss her findings that analyze the experiences of correction officers and nurses working in incarcerated settings both jails and prisons. Chapman conducted 20 interviews to learn about their lived experiences in these occupations, and about how they process their job-related stress, given that they are working in a system that is experiencing a mental health crisis during a time of mass incarceration.

Meg Loncharic: Erie dance student chosen as model for national costume catalog Erie Times-News An Erie Dance Conservatory student, 5-year-old Viviana Pribonic, was chosen to be a costume model for the national dance costume catalog Curtain Call Costumes 2021. Her mother, Deena Pribonic, who is also an instructor at Erie Dance Conservatory, had a friend who works for Curtain Call Costumes and thought Viviana would make a great candidate, according to information provided by Erie Dance Conservatory. So, mother and daughter traveled five hours to York on three different occasions in January, February and June 2020 for photo shoots. Sarah Purvis, the dance school’s artistic director, said that Viviana was a natural. She was not only featured throughout the catalog, but also as one of the dancers on the cover.
