Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture officially launched

 16 Jan 2021 - 16:18 The Peninsula Doha: In the presence of H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums, the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture was officially inaugurated at the Katara Cultural Village Opera House on Friday, January 15, 2021, with a special concert by the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra (QPO) and the US Air Forces Central Band (AFCENT Band). The event was hosted by Qatar Museums and the United States Embassy.  Introducing Friday evening’s concert were H E Salah bin Ghanem Al Ali, Minister of Culture and Sports, Qatar; Sheikh Meshal bin Hamad Al Thani, Ambassador of Qatar to the United States; and Ambassador Greta C Holtz, Chargé d’Affaires, United States Embassy in Qatar. The concert marked the beginning of a year of specially curated exhibitions, festivals, bilateral exchanges, and events to be held in both nations.

The Western Rice Belt Production Conference, which represents rice growers in the region west of Houston and is put on by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, was changed to a virtual event because of the pandemic. That saved money; so the extra funds were used to help feed people in 21 Central Texas counties.
