Your support of our work is inspiring and invaluable. Why Healing Is an Act of Love “Going through things you never thought you’d go through will only take you places you never thought you’d get to.”- Morgan Harper Nichols TW: Sexual Assault/Trauma This piece was originally read at the first Take Back The Night event I attended in April, 2021. Three and ½ years. That is how long it has been since my entire world was turned on its head, and then turned on its head again. That is how long it has been since a part of me died forever.

(Photo: Celia Clarke/NCPR) May 10, 2021 SUNY Potsdam students held a march and rally on Friday to spread awareness about sexual assault. The Take Back the Night demonstration is the latest by students who want the university to change how sexual harassment complaints are handled. In April, the administration established a task force to review how the complaints are handled. A group of about 40 students marched through the SUNY Potsdam campus and downtown to Ives Park on Friday evening. As students marched they chanted, “Clothes are not consent, “our bodies, our choice” and “What do we want? Safe streets!” At times their chants bounced off the brick walls of campus buildings. Someone stuck their head out of a dorm window to shout support for the rally.

Male ally suggests women who don t want to be attacked surgically implant keys between fingers like Wolverine

4 hours ago CALGARY – Darin Hendricks, a self-identified male feminist ally, thinks women who don’t want to be attacked should have their keys surgically implanted between their fingers like Wolverine.  In a sign of solidarity, Hendricks was angered that advice to women when walking at night continues to be carrying keys between their knuckles as a way to really pack a punch. The idea to get Wolverine-like key claws came to him after a recent X-Men marathon on Disney+. “Not only would it protect women, it would save them constantly losing their keys in the bottom of their purse,” explained Hendricks excitedly. “I know that the X-Men fight real villains, and there isn’t really a villain in the violence against women, but I still think my ideas are worth considering”

The Northerner | Norse Violence Prevention Center hosts Take Back The Night

April 14, 2021 The Norse Violence Prevention Center (NVPC) Peer Ambassadors hosted a two-part “Take Back The Night” event Tuesday evening. About 20 people virtually attended the first part of the event that featured speaker Olivia Montgomery who serves as the equity and inclusion coordinator at the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence, as well as own an equity firm, discussed the intersection between gender and racial justice, and how students have a vital role in gender and civil rights movements.  According to Montana State University, “Take Back The Night” events have been hosted since 1877 when a women-only protest in England took place against the violence and terror that women felt as they walked the streets at night.
