Critically ill Covid-19 patients in the care of Frontline Portlaoise hospital staff going into 2021

Portlaoise staff have been on the Covid-19 frontline since March, spent Christmas Day caring for four patients and had people who are critically ill after testing positive in their care going into New Year s Day, according to the latest figures published by the Health Service Executive.
The HSE Covid-19 Daily Operations Update for Acute Hospitals for December 30 was published on New Year s Eve for the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise and other hospitals around Ireland.
The report, which was finalised at 8 pm, also shows that four patients with Covid-19 were being treated at the Laois hospital going into December 31. The report also reveals that three of these patients are in the hospital s ICU having fallen critically ill due to infection.
One midlands hospital remains clear of confirmed cases of Covid-19

Tullamore Hospital is one of just two of the country s Acute Hospitals that is not currently treating a patient with a confirmed case of Covid-19.
According to the latest figures from the HSE, only Tullamore Hospital and Tallaght Children s Hospital are free of the virus. There are also no suspected cases of Covid-19 in Tullamore.
Elsewhere in the Midlands, there are four patients with confirmed cases in Portlaoise and three in Mullingar with just one in Ballinasloe.
The figures also show that there were 48 vacant General Beds in Tullamore Hospital as of this morning but there were no available Critical Care Beds.

Across the country, there are 385 patients with Covid-19 being treated across the Acute Hospital Network. Of those, 67 are being treated in Beaumont, 30 in Letterkenny, 30 in St Vincent s and 29 in Tallaght.

Frontline staff at Portlaoise hospital spent Christmas Day caring for four patients with Covid-19, according to the latest figures published by the Health Service Executive.
The HSE Covid-19 Daily Operations Update for Acute Hospitals for December 25 was published on St Stephen s Day for the Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise and other hospitals around Ireland.
It shows that one of the four cases in the Laois hospital with the coronavirus was admitted for inpatient care on Christmas Day.
The report, which was finalised at 8 pm, also shows that a patient suspected of having Covid-19 was being treated in the hospital s ICU.

Additional trusts in covid hotspots such as Kent and London to start giving covid vaccine
A total of 18 trusts have been added to the vaccine programme, bringing the total number of hospitals up to 82
Several NHS trusts in covid hotspot areas will start receiving batches of the vaccine for the first time, according to NHS England.
Barts Health Trust, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells and Bedfordshire FT are among the latest set of trusts that will start providing the covid vaccine to over 80s and health and care staff.
These three trusts all operate in tier four areas with the highest rate of covid.
